Constructed from the finest and strongest materials available, Makaira series reels are big game reels developed to pursue everything from giant trevally, trophy-sized yellowtail and amberjack, to the most formidable adversaries in the ocean, like giant bluefin tuna, marlin, yellowfin tuna and large sharks.

MAXGEAR® - POWERED BY FORGED STAINLESS

The Makaira spinning reels are in a class of their own featuring a forged stainless steel, 17-4 grade machine cut gear. This reel was designed for ultimate strength.

DFD: DUAL FORCE DRAG SYSTEM

The Makaira drag system utilizes the complete surface area of the carbon fiber drag washers; the system has been engineered to make full contact with the outer edges of our carbon washers, which maximizes efficiency and the ability to deliver high drag outputs.

Okuma’s Makaira spinning reels are in a class of their own, featuring a forged stainless steel, machined MAXGEAR.
While the majority of reels in this category feature bronze, aluminum or simple machine cut stainless steel gears, the
Makaira’s class leading main gears are machine cut forged stainless steel. We ported the main gear and incorporated
other design elements to keep it light weight enough for you to fish all day. No compromises were made in the
internal design of MAXGEAR. The pinion gear and heat treated spool shaft are 17-4 grade machine cut stainless steel.
They are rust proof and were optimized to work with braided line and the reels high-output drag.
