28. Bass Kit - River & Impoundment

When it comes to fishing larger rivers, lakes and impoundments your skinny water bass fishing kit can come in handy for fishing the tighter upper reaches and shallower edge bites, however you are likely to need to add some heavier jigheads for fishing your smaller plastics to deeper edges and deeper schooled fish, along with a new collection of larger plastics and their associated jigheads.

The smaller ZMan offerings, such as the ZMan 2.5" GrubZ and ZMan 2.5" Slim SwimZ have been tournament winners for many anglers fishing schooled bass, rigged on TT Lures HeadlockZ and DemonZ jigheads. A selection of jigheads that includes 1/8, 1/6 and 1/4oz #1 should have you covered when fishing these smaller plastics.

From here you add some 3 - 4" plastics to your kit, along with jigheads that allow you to cast long and cover plenty of water, while also reaching the magic 20' mark where thermoclines often form and bass school. Popular ZMan plastics for this style of fishing include ZMan 3" Slim SwimZ, 3" MinnowZ, 3.5" Trick SwimZ and 4" StreakZ Curly TailZ. These plastics are commonly rigged on 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2oz jigheads in a 2/0 - 3/0 size. Again the TT Lures HeadlockZ Finesse, HeadlockZ HD and DemonZ jigheads are extremely popular.

If there are crustaceans present in the system, then it is also worth including some ZMan 2.5" TRD CrawZ and 4" Turbo CrawZ in your kit.

In terms of jigheads there are a few other options that can be included once you have the basic kit sorted and these include SnakelockZ for fishing weedless through any structure that is encountered, RevlockZ, which are designed to add some subtle flash and vibration to your presentation, along with Jig Spinners, which can be attached to your presentation to both add flash and vibration, while also increasing the snag resistance.
